Sept. 08, 2009:

Just a reminder to sign up if you are interested in joining the MHS at Vern Ruml's place this Sunday, September 13th (25 minutes outside of Winnipeg) for a tour of his extensive collection! The MHS is subsidizing the cost of this outing in an attempt to raise funds towards the medical expenses of his large Burmese, Butch, who is terminally ill.

The MHS is looking forward to meeting everyone at the October MRBE at the Polo Park Inn! We will be unveiling some details of our 2010 Membership Package, have copies of our first newsletter in years to members and non-members alike (to be printed quarterly), will be selling t-shirts to help raise money for the club and be selling reduced-price memberships for the balance of the 2009 year (good until February 2010). Look for our bigger and better booth than the July expo!

MHS members had a great time at the July 20th MRBE. The animals were a hit, and the staff was happy to meet many new herpers, as well as catching up with old friends. We can't wait to see everyone at the next expo!

May 28, 2008:

On the 17th of May a group of people from the MHS attended the Narcisse snake pits. The weather was challenging but it was still an awesome time!

While walking the trails we finally began to see the snakes that thought they could hide from expert snake hunters like us lol! Den one was a little bit sparse but still really neat to see the limestone cave that they have been living in for hundreds of years.

We kept on wandering the trails looking forward to the next den and when we arrived we saw even more snakes, it was almost like they were making a show for us.

Den three was amazing in light of the weather we saw several mating balls. Those snakes didn't seem to mind the weather at all. I found it amazing to see that even with all the wind and rain we all manged to get along and enjoy each others company. People did have a hard time keeping up with me but everyone made an effort. I think that overall it was a time I will remember fondly. Thanks to Rich,Ashley and Amanda for the hard work that went into organizing and planning this event as well to the MHS for keeping this an annual event. With the continued growth of the MHS I know that we will have some fantastic future events! Thanks again to all that made the long drive there and made it a time to remember!

A bruiser of a day with low spring temperatures and a lot of wind. The snakes like our own membership were driven to be there though. Thanks to Amanda for stepping up and working hard to keep the event organised.

From all reports there were still plenty of smiles to go around. The threat of rain couldn't even douse the enthusiasm of this crew.

Melanie won the draw of a $25 gift certificate for the Petland Superstore.

People brought friends, kids and family which is just like we want it. It all made up for a great group. Rich and Ashley were responsible for much of the ground work that lead up to the meeting. Thanks to them for the time they invested.
