I'm sorry, you're comparing people wanting to ban snakes to people who say no to a MTS dr2dr salesman? That makes them close minded?

Sorry, back on topic.

I think that by laws means travelling shows coming through the city

same bylaw winnipeg has, if your in Winnipeg and are considered a travelling show I do not believe that allows you to keep the banned animals.

well I did go to the meeting.Said a few words then was asked where I was from and the town council said that they wanted to hear from local residents dont figure. It is a joke There is 2 guys from the council that have been to hannas and have no problems with the snakes. No one at the meeting was against having the snakes. There is a petition that went around to have the snakes banned and they got over 50% .The ban on the snakes just doesnt only effect the town .....They are including the whole RM OF STUARTBURN. Hanna was told that she could not bring any snakes to the meeting. The school also has concerns with the man eaters. Her dad asked the town if there were any black cats cause he is scared of them, he told the council that they will be contacting a lawyer.Hanna also told the council that she wont get or breed anymore if they can get the snakes grandfathered in.....so in the long run the council is looking out for their jobs.

oh thats what it always is, if they dont bend to the will of the "louad majority" since theyd ont always represent 50% of the town, the 50% of the ones that like to bitch about everything/anything

If they turn these people away cause they are being idiots, it's likely theyw ill not be re-elected. Sad.. but true. These people are elected not because they are the best at the job, usually it's because they are the best at sucking up to the louder majority of people.

Every politician from any size is exactly the same

Awesome.

On topic: If worse comes to worse... should some MHS members (if possible) offer to give the snakes new homes if the bill passes?

My home is open to either of the snakes that are legal inside Winnipeg for temporary or permanant housing, but I can't offer for the boas unfortunately

Shawn had made a similar offer earlier. I passed it on to them a few days ago for consideration if things do not work out.

I spoke to Dustin today. He states that they haven't heard anything back as to when the next reading is and that they will keep in touch.

Nice! Anyone know who wrote it?

I spoke to Hanna yesterday. She ran into a council person yesterday and they stated that they have no idea when the next reading will be but said it likely won't be for a while.

Told her to keep in touch.

hey this is hannah, from vita, i want to thank everyone for supporting us and i just want to let you guys know that i do not have 2 bp and my female never incubated any eggs, shes never even been gravid. i own 5 columbian red-tails, 1 carpet python, and 1 ball python. The female that had neonates was my columbian, and she only had 3 so im not sure where 15 eggs came from but im sure my neighbor is the one that said that. and the reason she only had 3 is because i rescued my male and female adult columbians from a guy who didnt take care of them at all (he only fed them every 4 months) the female was skin and bones i could see her spine and all of her ribs, and the male was covered in mites. It took me over a year to get them back to health and then they bred unexpectedly and since she wasnt full health yet she only had 3 and 8 slugs. but they also have a stunted growth from being unhealthy. but they are very healthy now and doing well.

and to let everyone know im still not sure when the third meeting is yet but i will keep everyone informed.

The council told Hannah that they would contact her so that she could be at the meeting when it was to be discussed and voted on.

They then added it to the agenda of a meeting already going on and voted on it without contacting her. It passed, her pets were outlawed. The February 2010 issue of our newsletter has more information on this and will be posted on the site when the new issue comes out in the beginning of June.
